FACEBOOK
BUILT THE PERFECT PLATFORM FOR COVID VACCINE
CONSPIRACIES BY SARAH FRIER AND SARAH KOPIT
According to these two,
Mark Zukerberg the CEO for social media wanted to make his social network a
reliable source about the Pandemic. Instead, he has helped spread misinformation
about vaccines causing infertility.
A woman by name,
Kaleese Williams who had stayed off facebook and instagram before Covid-19 hit
did not know what was trending. But during the lockdown, the 37 year- old woman
was stuck on her Texas farm with her husband, their 3 year- old child and their
chickens and goats. She was also cut off her income.
Kaleese Williams sells essential
oils for a multimedia level marketing company in Utah called young living. So
because of Quarantine, she decided and planned to sell her essential oils on
social media; which is intagram and facebook in order to meet and sell to
people over there. Therefore, she became known on these platforms where she
gained more than thousands of followers.
Already, Kaleese
Williams was averse to traditional
medicines after feeling bullied during a bout of cancer she had in 2017; in
which the doctor failed to disclose to her that, a treatment she underwent could cause her
infertility.
Kaleese Williams then
began to spend more of her time consuming information about different forms of
alternative medicines such as naturopathy and functional medicine. That is where,
she came across a post on the social media platforms based on unfounded rumours
that claimed the Pfizer Inc. and
Moderna Inc. shots were toxic, and
therefore caused adverse reactions and might have infertility risks.
Before long, she became
convinced that Food and Drug Administration have approved vaccines which have
few side effects and are almost entirely effective at preventing
hospitalization and death from Covid-19 but not for her. Since she believes in
immune system and do not believe in vaccines-induced herd immunity.
The story above is said
to have been caused by Mark Zukerberg and other opportunists of the social
media platforms, using Kaleese’s experience and the information she got to
cultivate a strategy to optimized social era and dripping anti-science
skepticism into the minds of people and eliciting strong emotional reactions
and fear of not taking the vaccines.
This is therefore, a
DEEPFAKE. Since deep fake refers to videos, created using digital software,
machines learning and face swapping.
In the case of Kaleese
Williams, the writers did not show a prove of Mark Zukerbeg associating
Kaleese’s experience to send information worldwide in order to make her social
network a reliable source.
Moreover, when you go
on facebook to search any information concerning Mark Zukerberg using Kaleese
as a tool to tell the public that, truly the vaccines causes infertility, you
would not find such information.
Again, no picture or
image of Kaleese was even used to make the story content spicy and more
believable. Also, the image of Bigtree where it was captioned that, he is
speaking against legislation to narrow exemptions to state-mandated vaccines
during rally in Albany cannot be justified if truly that was what he talking
about.
Also, the audio
included in the story is not tangible evidence for the story content. Since it
has it captioned as ‘rumour’. In which
rumours are not valid or facts checked to use as news to make a story.
I vetted the story by
searching Kaleese Williams and found out that, she is into the selling of oils
though, but looking through her posts, she never made mention of anything
concerning vaccines or Mark Zukerberg associating her infertility to that of
Covid-19 vaccines.
Kaleese’s posts are basically extraordinary things
concerning her family and her business. That is, she post things of her
products and health nutrients to keep the body health, and words of
encouragement.
I also realized that,
she hasn’t even said a word about Covid-19 and even infertility throughout her
posts.
In short, the story
contents did not provide any concrete evidences to prove that, Mark Zukerberg
is using Covid-19 vaccines to promote social media or make it a reliable
source. Since even if you search any negativity things about Covid-19 vaccines,
it most of the time, positive results you would be given.
